New in town: Mei Fang Chicken Rice — Chicken rice stall from defunct Mei Yuen Restaurant reopens at Brunners Coffeeshop
Hey, remember a couple of months ago when I spilled the tea about Mei Yuen Restaurant closing its doors after decades of heritage? Well, brace yourself! Mei Fang Chicken Rice, the chicken rice stall from the restaurant, swung back into action on 1 Mar 2024!
Learning that it reopened at Brunners Coffeeshop brings me some comfort, especially after I found out that the main outlet of Meet 4 Meat, my favourite stall, is exiting that kopitiam on 31 Mar 2024, after 6 years of operations— sadness, indeed.
We visited the stall at 12pm on a weekend only to discover a single steamed chicken remained, clinging to the rack like a lone ranger. New customers who arrived at 12.30pm were utterly disappointed when they learnt that everything was sold out for the day.
There wasn’t a physical menu displayed at the stall when we visited but prices have risen by a dollar compared to the old location. A plate of Steamed Chicken Rice and Roasted Chicken Rice now costs S$6 and an additional order of Braised Egg is S$1.
But fear not, the chef hasn’t lost his mojo and still dishes out lip-smacking standards of rice and chicken from back in the day.
The stall’s operating hours are still a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. Right now, they’re open for business from 9am till sold out. In the future, the hours might be tweaked— we’ll see soon enough!
If you’ve been eagerly anticipating the reopening of the noodle stall from Mei Yuen Restaurant, I’ve got some news: it’s a big fat ‘nope’ for now. Why? Well, it seems like nobody’s jumping at the chance to take over the business.
For those wanting to have a delicious plate of chicken rice, swing by Mei Fang Chicken Rice and show them some support.
