New in town: Legend Wanton Mee — $5.50 WTM by MasterChef Singapore finalist Aaron Wong

If you’re a fan of MasterChef Singapore, you’ll be no stranger to Aaron Wong. The MasterChef Singapore 2018 finalist has now ventured into wanton mee with his Legend Wanton Mee stall in Bukit Merah.

For the unacquainted, Aaron actually began in the hawker scene with Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway back in 2020. Immensely popular, Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway now has a whole chain of outlets. With Aaron’s foray into the wanton mee business, it seems that he won’t be stopping in his hawker tracks anytime soon.

Legend Wanton Mee - Storefront

The Legend Wanton Mee stall at Bukit Merah is Aaron’s way of bringing his unique take on wanton mee to folks. He initially served up his rendition of the dish at a pop-up at the Singapore Food Festival in 2022, though it was jazzed up with kurobuta char siew.

According to Aaron, he was fed up with the lack of WTM stalls that offered a good all-rounded version of the dish. In his words, “If the sauce was good, the noodles may not be ‘Q’ enough. And if the sauce and noodles are good, the disappointingly dry char siew falls short. And if the stars are almost aligned and the noodles and fatty char siew are spot on, the vegetables looked like they died last year.”

So, with this in mind, Aaron is out on a mission to put together the very best wanton mee possible. From meat to noodles and even veggies, Aaron does everything from scratch.

Diners can look forward to wanton that has an amazing meat filling-to-skin ratio, and smoky pork belly. You can get this specially crafted WTM for just S$5.50 with the choice of dry, or soup.

Head down to Legend Wanton Mee, which Aaron affectionately refers to as his “ulu canteen” for a taste of stellar WTM. Perhaps, you might even discover your new favourite joint.

It seems that Aaron also has another upcoming steamboat concept, Guo Jin that’s in the works — keep your eyes peeled!
