SINGAPORE — Actors Tosh Zhang and Jayley Woo are joining the cast of the second season of So Bright, a web series musical about young aspiring musicians.

Season 1 of So Bright, by indie production house Sentang Entertainment, consisted of eight 10-13 minute episodes. The second season was picked up by OTT streaming platform Viu, which traditionally mostly features Korean dramas.

This was the first time both actors had acted in a web series. Tosh is well-known for his role in Jack Neo’s Ah Boys to Men series of army films, while Jayley usually stars in Channel 8 dramas.

Jayley said the crew of So Bright was very passionate, which made her experience during shoots quite different from the productions she usually works on. “Sometimes when I go on set, the first thing I hear is, ‘What time are we wrapping today?’ And that kills all my energy. But you can really feel the passion on the set of So Bright. This is the first set where I want to be on set even when I'm not filming and even when I'm super tired, because I just can't help but want to be close to that energy.”

Tosh plays a rock musician who loves hip hop. He shared some challenges that he experienced during filming. “Even though I’ve made rap music, on this set, there's a scene where I have to rap in Mandarin. And that was one of my most stressful times, because the lyrics were a very cheem (difficult) kind of Mandarin. I had to memorise and I had to flow at the same time. Then there was one scene where it took me so long that we overran by a few hours. But all the co-actors were very supportive of me.”

In So Bright 2, the story picks up from season one as it continues to follow the relationships and musical journeys of the protagonists. Musician Ah Ji (Bunz) successfully debuts as a singer while his friend, Zi Yi (Aden Tan), continues to fulfil his singing aspirations through busking.

With Ah Ji’s recommendation, Zi Yi decides to perform in a musical. Zi Yi forms friendships with Zi Qi (Jayley Woo), the female lead of the musical, as well as Xiao Di (Tosh Zhang), a production crew member who shares the same deep passion for music.

As a love triangle starts to develop, Zi Yi is also convinced that his girlfriend, Si Si (Jannassa Neo), is seeing another man, Ze Ting (Kim Nam Woo). A complex web of emotions and relationships soon unfolds, forcing each of them to evaluate what love and sacrifice truly mean in the pursuit of their dreams.

So Bright 2 is a co-production between official channel partner Viu, mm2 Entertainment and Sentang Entertainment. The series will premiere in Singapore in the fourth quarter of this year on www.viu.com and on the Viu mobile app as a Viu original production. The first season of So Bright will also be available on Viu.
