Tony Leung: I used to be afraid of leaving my comfort zone
7 Feb – Tony Leung Chiu Wai recently admitted that he had always been afraid of leaving his comfort zone prior to filming Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings".
The Hong Kong star, who started his own Douyin account last month, recently released a series of videos in which he shares his feelings regarding his career.
In the latest video, Tony revealed that he was never one to take risks when it comes to his performance for the past 40 years, and would rarely do movies with other directors aside from the ones he used to.
"I have always stayed in the comfort zone at work. You can see I have been filming Wong Kar Wai for 20 years, Johnnie To, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, etc. People I am familiar with. I rarely shoot with new directors because I feel insecure. I am the kind of person who dare not take risks, not just in work, but maybe my personality is like this, maybe I am afraid of losing, afraid of failure, maybe because of my background," he said.
He added that he doesn't like to revisit his own performances, because he will always see the bad parts and doesn't enjoy watching himself at all.
This changed after the offer came for him to star in the Marvel movie.
"I felt like I should throw away all the baggage. I have accumulated so many years of experiences and I know my work attitude, so there was nothing to worry about," he added.
