It's only been a few weeks since Tommy Lee broke the internet by posting a full-frontal nude photo to Instagram – yep, d*ck out and all – but anyone who saw the image on their feed will tell you it's firmly burned into their memory.

His post sparked a strong reaction online – racking up over 50,000 likes and plenty of comments – and reignited important conversations about how women's bodies are policed on social media in comparison to men's.

After being on Instagram for over five hours, Tommy's d*ck pic was removed but it only took him a few days before reposting an artified version of the original image. Fans said the musician had found a "loop hole" to get around Instagram's community guidelines, which state: "For a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram."

Now, as the fallout from his full-frontal nude quietens down, the musician has revealed what lead him to post it – and the reason is just what you'd expect from this notorious 'bad boy'.

"A couple of weeks ago, we had a two-week break off the tour, and I went on a motherf**king bender, bro," he told the crowd during a Motley Crue gig in Texas in a clip that he later shared to his Twitter. "I got f**king sideways as f**k and got naked and posted pictures of my d*ck!"

He then went on to encourage his fans to do the same, by getting their own genitalia out. "Usually, I mean I’m a t*tty man, so I like to see t*tties, but tonight is equal-opportunity night," he said. "Tonight, I wanna see everyone’s d*ck."

"C’mon, boys, pull your sh*t out. Pull your f**king junk out. Let’s go!"

But not everyone in the crowd was onboard with his suggestion, and after telling one person in the audience to "show the whole world that motherf**king hot dog", he was met with opposition from the man's partner. "The wife says no? Divorce," he responded as some people let out a burst of laughter.

Like much of Tommy's recent behaviour, the clip was met with a mixed response on Twitter. "You are hilarious!" one person tweeted, as others branded him a "mess" and urged the 59-year-old to "grow up".
