Soon Heng Pork Noodles — Popular ‘Bedok-style’ soupy BCM stall to close 27 Apr

Soon Heng Pork Noodles, a popular Outram hawker stall that’s well-regarded for their soupy ‘Bedok-style’ bak chor mee, is slated to close come 27 Apr 2024.

Soon Heng Pork Noodles took to their Facebook page to announce their impending closure. Although they did not specify a reason, they took the chance to express gratitude for the support of their customers, relatives and food bloggers over the past 6 years.

The post garnered numerous dismayed reactions and comments from loyal patrons, with some eagerly asking for future updates.

While Soon Heng’s closure will clearly leave many disheartened, there is still hope! The stall owners also mentioned that they’ll be on the lookout for opportunities to make a comeback even as they take a well-deserved break.

For the uninitiated, Soon Heng Pork Noodles specialises in ‘Bedok-style’ bak chor mee, a dish every seasoned foodie will be familiar with. It’s the soupy variant of our local favourite minced meat noodles, championed by the renowned Bedok 85 BCM stalls.

Since its opening in 2018, Soon Heng has been deemed a worthy ‘rival’ to those iconic establishments. Its central location along Neil Rd has been a huge plus; many no longer had to brave an arduous journey to the east for a soupy BCM fix.

The signature dish is priced at S$5.30 for a Regular bowl and S$6.30 for a Large one. You’ll choose from 4 types of noodles: mee pok, mee kia, kway teow and mee tai bak.

Each bowl is served with wantons, meatballs, pork lard and a generous portion of minced meat. The broth, light and robust, is a product of simmering pork bones for hours on end. It is undeniably delicious and comforting.

Soon Heng Pork Noodles is helmed by second-generation hawker Andrew Tan. His culinary prowess was honed under the tutelage of his mother, who has a BCM stall at 538 Bedok North.

We wish Andrew all the best and hope that Soon Heng Pork Noodles will make a much-welcome comeback. For now, you can hurry on down to the stall for a soupy BCM fix before it shutters, or perhaps patronise Andrew’s mother’s stall!
