Somedaydream, Gloc-9 lead MYX Awards nominees
Rapper Gloc-9 and newcomer Somedaydream garnered the most nominations for the MYX Awards 2012, which will be held this March 13 at the Music Museum in San Juan City.
Rez Toledo, popularly known as electropop artist Somedaydream, earned seven nominations, including nods for the Favorite Artist, Favorite Song, and Favorite Music Video categories.
Expectedly, he is also nominated in the Best New Artist category, alongside Zia Quizon, Solenn, Angeline Quinto, and, curiously, former Sugarfree frontman Ebe Dancel (who just released his first solo album last year).
Meanwhile, Gloc-9 (real name: Aristotle Pollisco) got the most recognitions, earning eight nominations in six categories. Besides snagging Favorite Artist and Favorite Song nods, he also got three nominations in the Favorite Collaboration category.
Parokya ni Edgar received the most nominations among the rock groups.
MYX Awards 2011 big winner Yeng Constantino got two nominations for Favorite Artist and Favorite Female Artist.
Among the solo acts, Christian Bautista is second to Somedaydream in the nomination tally with five nods (including one for Alodia Gosengfiao in the Favorite Guest Appearance in a Music Video for “All That’s Left).
MYX Channel Head Andre Allan Alvarex explained how the nominees were chosen: “Basically kung sino sa maraming votes na na-garner from the past year. So yung mga nagta-top sa MYX Daily Top Ten, Pinoy MYX Countdown, MYX International Top 20, and MYX Hit Charts.”
He added, “Basically we give it to our viewers. It's their choice. So talagang representative of kung ano yung mga gustong iboto ng mga tao.”
Winners of the MYX Awards 2012 will be based on online fan votes (in the MYX website and Facebook page) and artists’ poll.
