Sofia Jane excited to portray legendary actress Zaiton in new movie
27 Mar - Sofia Jane is elated to be given the chance to portray thespian Zaiton in the upcoming movie, "Mencari Ramlee".
The actress, who is working alongside Tony Eusoff, Mimi Lana and Megat Shahrizal among others, stated that the character of Zaiton will be one of the four leads in the upcoming movie.
"When they meet, we can see the differences and similarities between them that are closely related to P. Ramlee's works. When my character meets Tony's, you will see some love sparks," she said.
However, Sofia denied that she is involved in the film because of her friendship with Megat, who also helms the project, but that she accepted the role as it is different than other projects.
Zaiton, or Zaiton Abdullah, was one of the most celebrated Malay film actresses in the 1950s and '60s. Known for having traditional Malay beauty, she had starred in multiple films like "Raja Bersiong", "Ibu Mertua-ku", and "Ali Baba Bujang Lapok".
The upcoming film will revolve around the struggles faced by local artistes in the '70s as Malay films began to lose its luster among audiences.
