Sneex Founder Sara Blakely to Be Honored By National Women’s History Museum at Women Making History Awards Gala
Sara Blakely, founder of the sneaker-heel fusion brand Sneex, is slated to be honored by the National Women’s History Museum at the Women Making History Awards Gala held on March 20 at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. The event “celebrates extraordinary, trailblazing women who have made a profound contribution to society.”
Additional honorees include Dr. Opal Lee, Shirley Welsh Ryan and Mattel, which is the recipient of the inaugural Evelyn Y. Davis Women Making History Corporate Changemaker Award; Mattel EVP and chief brand officer Lisa McKnight will accept that award. Journalist Norah O’Donnell will host the event and Meryl Streep will serve as the honorary chair of the gala.

“We are incredibly proud to be celebrating this incomparable group of honorees at our gala. They have each made indelible contributions to society that will endure for generations to come,” said Susan D. Whiting, chair of the NWHM Board of Directors. “We are looking forward to commemorating the remarkable achievements of Sara, Opal, Shirley, and Mattel at what promises to be an inspiring and unforgettable night.”
Blakely’s latest brainchild Sneex hit the market in 2024 and earned the Launch of the Year award at the 38th annual Footwear News Achievement Awards, where her daughter Tepper was on hand to accept the trophy. The entrepreneur, known previously for founding the massively successful brand Spanx, stepped outside the box with a footwear design that adds a stiletto heel to a sneaker silhouette, ideal for those who want the elevation of heels but the comfort of sneakers. Gayle King has become one of the biggest celebrity fans of the shoe, having stepped out in multiple pairs since Sneex debuted. And Kathy Bates wore a pair to the Golden Globes this month.
