Caffeine making you an insomniac? Here's a herbal remedy
Did you know that sleep deprivation has the same effects as drinking too much alcohol? Many first worlders suffer from insomnia and resort to the morning jolt from a caffeine-infused cuppa to sustain us through the day. However, before you reach out to sleep supplements, why not reexamine your caffeine intake throughout the day?
Caffeine comes in the forms of all the wonderful things we all love: Coffee (including decaffeinated coffee, yes!), chocolate (and that includes chocolate ice cream), coca cola, soda, energy drinks, kombucha and of course tea as well!
According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the effects of caffeine can last more than five hours. While those with caffeine sensitivities like myself might feel symptoms, which include not being able to sleep despite feeling tired, for even a few days after consumption. That was how I discovered the wonders of Pukka Tea, an organic herbal tea brand that is naturally caffeine-free.
As a coffee AND tea lover, I embrace all sorts of caffeinated beverages. However, of late, I have become more discerning with my drink choices both day and night, especially since I can feel the effects of a caffeinated drink that was consumed early in the morning, even more than 12 hours later. This is how my newfound love of Pukka herbal tea comes in.
Just take a look at the gorgeous packaging, and I'm sold! As someone in the creative industry, aesthetics (and packaging) are essential. Each box is beautifully designed with said ingredients. As a conscious consumer and advocate of planet-friendly everything (I try), the brand has taken extra pains to ensure that the entire packaging and tea bags are made from sustainable materials to reduce carbon footprint and energy consumption. Be sure to recycle everything afterwards!
But most importantly, what’s in the bag?
According to the brand, they source and use only the best quality, practitioner-grade, organic ingredients. Not just that, their in-house herbal experts draw on insights from the latest herbal research and education to the blend creation. This is evident in the new flavours that keep being introduced, to my delight. And there’s more! Each Pukka Tea Bag is designed to retain the essential oils in their organic herbs, with two chambers to allow incredible herbs to flow and release the full potency in your cup. The proof is in the taste.
Here are some of my personal favourites I hope you can try!
