Singapore gets new streaming service from Fox

5 May – There's a new streaming service in Singapore, recently launched by Fox. Called Fox+, it is accessible via Singtel's Cast streaming service and can be viewed through an app on mobile phones, tablets and computers.

This gives mobile users access to the shows, movies and live sports that are available on Fox channels, according to Today Online.

Currently, Fox+ is only available to people with a mobile, TV or broadband plan with Singtel and will be made available to StarHub subscribers in the following months.

When asked about competition from established players such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, the president of FOX Networks Groups Asia, Zubin Gandevia, said: "We believe there's a market here because our channels do very well. More and more people want to have the option to see great television products on any screen, anytime and anywhere."

Gandevia also states that the Fox movies available on Fox+ will be released one year ahead of other subscription services, though did not reveal how soon exactly a movie would be available after its cinema run.

When compared to Netflix or Amazon Prime in terms of price, Fox+ is admittedly the most expensive of the three. Netflix services costs from SGD10.98 to SGD 16.80 and Amazon Prime has a tempting introductory rate of SGD4.25 per month for the first six months and costs SGD8.50 for every month after.

On the other hand, Singtel is offering an introductory rate of SGD19.90 per month for Fox+, but only to those who are signed up for broadband or mobile plans with Singtel while Singtel TV users can enjoy Fox+ for SGD12.90 per month. Additionally, promotional prices are only available for a year and will cost SGD24.90 per month once it expires.

However, network executives insist that the content is worth the price. Fox+ allows access to past episodes and full seasons, so subscribers can binge-watch shows while waiting for the next episode, which will be available for streaming at the same time they air.

However, there is some content such as "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" that Fox+ does not yet have. When asked, a spokesman said that they will work on getting the latest shows onto Fox+.
