Shadow Detective press con: Lee Sung-min revealed his glucose level went down on set

Coming to Disney+, Shadow Detective follows the story of a soon-to-be-retired detective Kim Taek-rok (Lee Sung-min). However, one day, he is framed for a murder he didn’t commit. On the run, Taek-rok is contacted by the real murderer, a man who identifies himself only as a “Friend”. He is blackmailed into reinvestigating his old cases in the hope of clearing his name.
During the press conference, Lee Sung-min described his character Taek-rok as someone with a panic disorder due to a traumatic experience in the past. He dislikes his peers getting hurt and is very protective of them. As he is framed for murdering his partner, he becomes embroiled in a turmoil of emotions.
Apparently, the drama was so physically demanding on the 53-year-old Sung-min that his originally high glucose level went down. “I went to the hospital one day and they told me that all of my levels had gone down. The doctor asked me if I worked out and I just told him no, I was just working on a drama. The doctor was perplexed and questioned if I don’t work out then what’s my secret? I told him I run a lot on set,” he recounted.
In Shadow Detective, Kyung Soo-jin portrays detective Lee Sung-a, who is called the “female version of Taek-rok”. Soo-jin said that she had played a detective before but not a strong and loyal character like Sung-a, who will have some action scenes.
Soo-jin also revealed that Lee Hak-joo is just like his character Son Kyung-chan, a detective who wants to work with Taek-rok and pulls strings to get a transfer to the same police station. She described that Hak-joo came prepared with his script and took memos of what he was going to say, just like his character. But he didn’t perform up to his full potential.
When asked about how similar he and his character are, Hak-joo laughed, “I thought it was only 10 per cent. But now that I’m on stage talking, I realised it may be almost 100 per cent.”
As the real murderer is unknown, Sung-min said that many people could be the “Friend”. He felt that the story was such a page-turner that he read his whole script in one sitting. He thought that the viewers would feel the same way as the drama makes you want to know more about what happens next.
Jin Goo added that there were many different incidents in the drama. “In every episode, there is going to be someone who is fishy, and that person is going to change every episode,” he said.
Director Han hinted that when you carefully follow Taek-rok’s story and look into the missions that the “Friend” gave Taek-rok, you would be able to come up with your own theory on who the “Friend” is. He also highlighted that you should not miss out on the backstories of each of the characters.
Shadow Detective marks the second collaboration between Jin Goo and Soo-jin. They may have played husband and wife in Untouchable (2017), but in Shadow Detective, their characters are faced with a lot of conflicts and quarrel a lot.
As the drama will be available to global audiences through Disney+, the director and cast are confident and have high hopes that the drama will be well-received by global audiences. They have poured in their hard work and dedication to the drama and are looking forward to your love and support.
