This secluded late-night bak chor mee spot in Singapore operates till 5.30am daily
Is your stomach rumbling after a round of drinks with friends at KPO or Acid Bar & Restaurant? Well, before you start booking a private hire to Geylang or 85 Fengshan Centre, hold your horses! Simply take a leisurely stroll down Orchard Plaza, head up to level 4, and pray there isn’t a queue at Orchard Bak Chor Mee.
At first glance, this secluded 10-seater eatery may resemble a ramen bar with counter seating. But as soon as your sense of smell catches the whiff of vinegar, you’ll quickly realise that it’s actually selling one of our favourite local noodle dishes— bak chor mee.
The establishment, which opened in November last year, operates from 7pm until 5.30am the next morning— perfect if you’re seeking a supper spot.
The menu features the crowd-favourite Signature Bak Chor Mee (S$7.90), with your choice of Mee Sua, Mee Pok or Mee Kia. Each order throws in a bowl of soup that contains pork slices, fishballs, meatballs and pork liver. For something to warm you up on a cold day, the Yellowtail Fishball Soup/Noodles (S$6.90) is an excellent choice.
You’ll get to enjoy chewy her giao with the Fish Dumpling Soup (S$6.90) or indulge in a bowl of creamy and spicy Old School Laksa (S$7.90). If you’re a fan of innards, you can also have the Dry Liver (S$6.90) that comes doused in chef chilli sambal, or slurp on the Liver Soup (S$6.90).
For those working near South Bridge Road, you may spot a familiar face working his magic on your bowl of noodles. It’s not his twin, but rather the same uncle who previously worked at the 24-hour Shan Yuan Teochew Kway Teow Noodle stall at BK Eating House.
With eateries like Orchard Bak Chor Mee and Miss Saigon popping up at Orchard Plaza, we hope this old-school shopping mall will see a bit of new life breathing into its premises.
