Sammi Cheng has no issue playing motherly role
16 Jan – Hong Kong pop diva Sammi Cheng recently stated that she has no qualms playing the role of a mother in her upcoming new movie, "Eight Women, One Stage Play" (working title).
As reported on Mingpao, the actress who is reuniting with "Everlasting Regret" director Stanley Kwan in the new movie, plays the role of an over-the-top drama queen and mother of a ten-year-old son, who is in competition with her rival (starring Gigi Leung).
When asked if she has any problems being asked to play the role of a mother, Sammi responded, "Absolutely none. No problem at all. I think it's natural. It would only be weird if I am playing a mother to a 30-year-old son."
Sammi said that she enjoyed reading the script and felt that it could be a breakthrough role for her.
"I am not second guessing myself like I did when we filmed "Everlasting Regret". I am at my healthiest condition," she added.
The upcoming movie, co-starring Bai Baiho and Louis Koo, is currently filming around Hong Kong and is tentatively scheduled for release sometime this year.
