Salamiah Hassan on hijab: I wear it because I want to wear it

21 Mar – Veteran singer Salamiah Hassan doesn't want people to make a big deal over her decision to wear a hijab, four months after the loss of her husband, Gerald Hughes.

The singer, who spoke to the media recently, stated that it was just time for her to take the leap, and that she has nothing to comment when it comes to that decision.

"You know how I am a very private person. All that I can say is that I want to wear it. It has nothing to do with anything," she added.

Salamiah also stated that she is now ready to get back to work, now that her iddah period is over.

Speaking of her husband's passing, Salamiah admitted that she is saddened by the fact, but that life has to go on.

"I am just human, of course I'd be sad. But praise be to God, I am doing well. I mean, can we even erase sadness just like that? We can just control it with the strength that God has given us," she added.

It was back in November last year that Salamiah lost her husband, just two months after the two tied the knot. It was her second marriage following her divorce from late husband Raja Haron in 1986.
