Sahal Zaman the first South Asian child actor to win at HKFA

18 Apr – Child actor Sahal Zaman recently became the first South Asian child actor to win Best New Performer at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

The 10-year-old, who won for his performance in the Anthony Wong-starrer, "The Sunny Side of the Street", accepted the award from Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, who herself had been nominated in the category back in 1986 for "Yes, Madam".

"I want to thank my parents, the director, and Anthony Wong for teaching me how to act. I am so happy," he said, adding that he hopes people will watch their movie.

Sahal bested other contenders including MIRROR's Edan Lui, who was nominated in the category for two movies, "Chilli Laugh Story" and "Hong Kong Family".

Meanwhile, Michelle, who recently made her return to Hong Kong to celebrate her Oscar win with her peers and attended the said event, also gave some advice to all the actors, saying, "As long as we fight and work hard with perseverance, and never give up, dreams do come true."
