Reasons to stay in this hotel
Tastefully designed rooms and facilities make exploring this hotel a joy. The nondescript entrance to the lift lobby can feel either mysterious or confusing, depending on the individual. Luckily, it opens to a brightly-lit welcome lobby, where visitors can partake in a tea ceremony while checking in.
Everywhere you turn, experience a soothing atmosphere with browns and black, large windows to let natural lights in, and warm illuminations. Especially with the Premier rooms, you'll get two large windows giving you a 180-degree view of Singapore's skyline.
Situated in the Central Business District with plenty of food and entertainment nearby
The hotel's location is one of the biggest bonuses of all; it's smack middle of CBD, close to Chinatown, Telok Ayer and Tanjong Pagar, making it the center of the food and entertainment hub in the area. Despite that, the moody design of the hotel makes it a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Also included in the package is an activity of choice. You can either get onto a trishaw and set off into the sunset on a bumboat ride by Uncle Trishaw, or decorate your own blue-and-white porcelain plate with Supermama.
I chose the latter to get in touch with my creative side, and even for my less artistically-inclined partner, it was an enjoyable, short and sweet experience choosing the decals and sticking them onto the porcelain plate (or cup, you can choose!) After that, the shop will fire it to make the design permanent and you can arrange to collect the final work or have it delivered.
On top of that, hotel guests are also entitled to discounted prices for certain tours and experiences to make the stay more memorable, such as:
An Untold Tale of the Samsui Women & Ma Jies
Scent Making Workshop
Brewery Culture & Tasting Tour
Disappearing Trades
SINGAPO人Exhibition
Cultural Culinary Class
Bento Workshop Experience
Simply check in with the staff for the available tours in advance.
The hotel’s efforts to provide culturally-immersive hospitality, by working with different partners to ensure hotel guests get easy access to experiences in Singapore – have garnered the “Experience Excellence (Leisure) – Outstanding Hotel Experience” award at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2022.
Plenty of food options in and around the hotel
Within the hotel nestled QIN Restaurant and Bar at Level 4, which opens daily. Breakfast is served between 6.30am to 10.30am. All-day-dining starts from 11.30am to 10.30pm (last order at 9.30pm), and the bar opens from 3pm to 10pm (last order at 9.30pm) on Level 5 within the same space.
The fusion cuisine was impressive, courtesy of a strong presentation by Tunglok Group. While we had a curated menu for media; I had the chance to observe the full house during lunch, and nods of approval seemed to be freely given at every table. My dining partner, a particularly finicky eater, was also impressed at the selection we were offered, and particularly impressed at the hot and cold yam dessert at the end of the meal.
It would be a pity, though, if you don't explore the surroundings, as the nearby Chinatown, Telok Ayer, Tanjong Pagar Road offer more food choices than you may have the tummy for!
