Review: Does Laneige’s latest 4-step Perfect Renew skincare routine bring about more refined, youthful skin?

Ageing – a scary word for every one of us, men included. Skin degeneration and the loss of skin elasticity can begin as early as the mid-20s. Moreover, environmental changes and lifestyle shifts can accelerate the ageing process. That’s why the earlier we start age prevention, the better. Laneige’s new and improved Perfect Renew 3X series offer a line of defence against ageing. The brand’s 4-step routine aims to provide a good skin base so you can face the world with a bare face or with makeup that adheres well to your skin.

I tried two of these four newly launched products, and here's my honest take on them.

Step 1: Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Skin Refiner

The first step to the entire series, this toner not just tones; it is said to reinvigorate the skin too. At the same time, it also hydrates and relieves skin irritation while firming up the appearance of pores. Formulated to be non-sticky, this highly-concentrated and nutrient-rich toner can penetrate deep into the epidermis, building a solid base to kickstart the skincare journey.

Step 2: Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Signature Serum

Combining three anti-ageing serums in one bottle, the Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Signature Serum is one of Amore Pacific's most significant product advancements this year. It is engineered to combat multiple skin ageing issues by combining three highly effective serums into a single pump. Here's how it works: Three age prevention serums are compartmentalised separately into three varying chambers to maximise the stability of each ingredient as well as to conserve serum efficiency. Thanks to Amore Pacific's extensive research and development, optimal results are achieved upon combining the three serums in one formulation. Best of all, this highly concentrated serum remains mild and gentle on Asian skin. Users have reported a 48% reduction in wrinkles and 66% in radiance glow after four weeks of use. Here’s more:

Formula 1: RE.D Flavonoid/Basel Glow Serum

This serum gives skin a lift to achieve that glowy and dewy effect, resulting in youthful-looking skin.

Formula 2: Peptides/Firming Serum

Evident signs of ageing have to do with the loss of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the skin. This serum boosts skin firmness whilst introducing hydration with its 21.5% highly-concentrated collagen peptide.

Formula 3: Retinol/Anti-Wrinkle Serum

With time and environmental changes, our skin defence mechanism deteriorates, causing an increase in inflammatory responses. This component targets to repair the damaged skin surface aside from working on its anti-wrinkle properties of up to 3.5 million micro-retinol capsules in a single drop.

Tried and tested

I was excited to try this product after discovering the advanced 3-in-1 formulation. Touted to strengthen the skin's barrier with double moisturising properties and skin-loving ingredients like retinol that targets wrinkles, peptides for firmness, RE.D Flavonoid for radiance, squalane (my favourite skin ingredient!) to strengthen the skin barrier; I was also concerned this product may be too intense for my sensitive skin. However, the product felt extremely comforting and nourishing on my dehydrated-oily-sensitive skin, thanks to its skin-friendly pH value of 5.7, making it suited for all skin types. One pump was adequate to cover my face and it felt incredibly soothing upon application. On some days, especially at night, I may use two pumps of this 3-in-1 formula to aid in the skin regeneration process at night.

Packaging

Another thing I love about this product is its clever packaging. Bottled in a special container which separates the three main ingredients, all I needed was a simple right-click, and a pump for all three ingredients to come together to work their magic, freshly pumped from their separate compartments.

Step 3: Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Emulsion

Working as a base for the skin, this emulsion nourishes while leaving a supple glow upon application. Furthermore, its oil-moisture balance preps the skin to optimise and absorb without any feeling of oiliness – something much appreciated in our hot and humid climate.

Not just that, this emulsion is said to strengthen and prep the skin to optimise and absorb, leaving it well hydrated over time.

Step 4: Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Cream

A 60-second rich and dense, buttery formula helps reduce wrinkles and firm up the skin via its active ingredients comprising RE.D flavonoid, peptide and retinol. It also acts as a shield to repair and restore skin elasticity caused by harsh external conditions. In addition, the soft-buttery texture creates a long-lasting yet hydrated appearance, leaving skin soft without any sticky finish.

Tried and tested

'Buttery' is the correct term to describe the consistency of this cream. Initially, I thought it might be too oily for my skin, but upon application, the product smoothed itself and kind of 'melted' into it. Just a tiny dollop was enough for it to do its job. My skin felt and looked hydrated upon application and even the following morning when I awoke. I also put on makeup after using my toner, followed by the Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Signature Serum and finishing my skincare routine with the Laneige Perfect Renew 3X Cream. Honestly, I was concerned it may be too rich and produce the greasiness I hate after a couple of hours of makeup. However, my makeup adhered well, and the greasiness was no more than usual.

Packaging

By now, you should know that our nails harbour a lot of germs which of course, is bad when it comes into contact with our skin. Thanks to the spatula, I don't have to worry about my dirty, germ-filled long fingernails digging into the buttery cream, soiling the rest of the concoction. Now I no longer have to worry about having beautiful long nails, while maintaining the hygiene of my skincare products. What's more, the spatula comes in a very pretty and matching lilac shade as the cream. Loves! Thank you thoughtful designer, whoever you are!

Overall thoughts

Having tried two out of the four-step Laneige Renew series, I was convinced this skincare line is suited for me. I have tried this product for less than a month, but I can see how nourishing it already is for my skin, which is a strange combination of dehydrated-oily-sensitive. Even after the first application, I could feel how comfortable it felt on my skin. Every morning after when I examine my skin in the mirror, I also noticed that my skin has become a tad more supple, and I'm not even exaggerating.

So would I shell out more money to complete the four-step skincare regime? The answer is Yes!
