New release dates for sequels to "Minions" and "Sing"

2 Apr – About two weeks ago, it was revealed that the release of "Minions: The Rise of Gru" would have to be delayed due to the post-production shutdown caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The sequel to the 2015 animated film "Minions", a spinoff of the "Despicable Me" franchise, finally has a confirmed new release date.
Deadline reported that the sequel will now open in North American cinemas on 2 July 2021.
The date was previously booked for the sequel to 2016 animated musical film "Sing", which has now been moved to 22 December 2021.
Looks like "Sing 2" is back to being a Christmas movie instead of a summer title. Back when it was first announced in early 2017, it was originally set for release in December 2020.
The new date puts the animated sequel up against Dwayne Johnson's "Black Adam". Though according to the actor's recent update, it is uncertain now if the movie will even be able to begin production this summer in time for its 2021 release.
To accommodate "Sing 2" in its holiday slate, Universal Pictures has removed its big screen adaptation of "Wicked" from the release schedule and it currently remains undated.
