Reese Witherspoon is returning to comedy TV with upcoming series All Stars, in the works at Prime Video.

The streamer has been successful in a bidding war, landing the show for a two-season order. Produced by Witherspoon's company Hello Sunshine, All Stars features the Legally Blonde actress in the lead role and sees The Devil Wears Prada and Cruella writer Aline Brosh McKenna at the helm (via Deadline).

Loosely inspired by a real story, the half-hour comedy follows Witherspoon as a cheerleader from Daytona Beach who cons her way across the pond to teach cheerleading at a school in coastal England.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend co-creator McKenna will direct the pilot and half of the episodes, as well as serving as executive producer.

The series marks Witherspoon's return to light-hearted television following her Friends days. In recent years, the Cruel Intentions star has appeared in star-studded TV dramas Big Little Lies, The Morning Show and Little Fires Everywhere.

"We are beyond excited to continue our fantastic relationship with Reese Witherspoon and [Hello Sunshine executive producer] Lauren Neustadter with this one-of-a-kind comedy, All Stars!" head of Amazon and MGM Studios Jennifer Salke said in a statement.

"Aline Brosh McKenna's pitch delivered it all – originality, an iconic lead character, and tons of fun! There is also a throughline of hope, perseverance, and being true to your authentic self that will resonate everywhere.

"We are over the moon to work with Reese, Lauren, Aline, and the Hello Sunshine team to bring this series to life for our global Prime Video audience."

All Stars isn't the only collaboration between Witherspoon and McKenna as the two have teamed up on the actress's next movie, swapping-house comedy Your Place or Mine.

Distributed by Netflix, the film has a The Holiday vibe to it and will premiere on February 10, 2023.
