Ramy Youssef has been on a roll. On top of his hit FX series, Ramy, the comedian spent this past year directing episodes of The Bear and starring in Yorgos Lanthimos's Poor Things. He even won a Peabody Award for co-creating Mo, a Netflix dramedy starring fellow comedian Mo Amer. What's his key to success? "Put on shoes," he tells Esquire.

"It's hard to fully appreciate success when you don't put on shoes," Youssef jokes in the latest episode of Esquire's "Explain This"video series. "It's like, you came here. You put on shoes. That means a lot to me." The comedian also talked about the time Bella Hadid complimented his style, as well as the struggle of visiting Copenhagen to film scenes for The Bear during Ramadan. Next up for Youssef is an animated series at Amazon titled #1 Happy Family USA, which boasts a voice cast of Alia Shawkat, Mandy Moore, and Chris Redd. "Animation is amazing because there's no location budget. It's just whatever location's in your head," he explains, citing Hey Arnold! as his favorite cartoon growing up. "It was kinda moody. New York feeling, getting into it with the neighbors. It just always made me feel really good."

Youssef also confirmed his willingness to write the next James Bond film—but only if he could star as James Bond. "Maybe it's illegal to say that," he says. "But I would write it so specifically that the character descriptions would only lead to one possible person being able to play James Bond. I think you know who it would be."
