1. Soy milk
The most common and the most nutritionally balanced plant-based milk is none other than soy milk. Made from soybeans, soy milk also offers complete protein, just like your meats. It has all the necessary amino acids for our body functions, making it the closest alternative to cow’s milk.
Soy milk also contains vitamin A, vitamin B, potassium, and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. These vitamins and minerals aid the immune system, and nerve, heart and brain health.

2. Almond milk
Almond milk has seen an increase in sales over the years, making it the next popular plant-based milk. It boasts a high dose of vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that helps lower the risk of heart disease and cognitive diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.
Although almond milk is not as naturally nutritious as soy milk, it is usually fortified with vitamins and minerals like calcium and vitamin D.

3. Coconut milk
Unlike other plant-based milk, coconut milk does not have a lot of protein. To make up for it, it has healthy fats called medium-chain triglycerides, which promote weight loss by decreasing appetite and increasing metabolism.
Coconut milk also contains the much-abhorred saturated fat. But as not all saturated fats are created equal, the ones in coconut milk are actually beneficial to our cholesterol, oxidative stress, blood pressure and immune function.
Besides, coconut milk is naturally sweet and creamy. Who can resist such temptation?!

4. Oat milk
Oat milk is increasingly popular these days, but it is not without reason. Apart from a high protein content (possibly second to soy milk), it is also a great source of vitamin B, which improves nerve and skin health. With the cereal as its ingredient, oat milk is one of the best options for people who are allergic to dairy, soy and nut.
While oats are naturally gluten-free, they are often processed at the same facility as the grains that contain gluten. There may be issues of cross-contamination but this can be easily circumvented by choosing oat milk labelled as certified gluten-free.

5. Cashew milk
The least common of the five, cashew milk contains healthy fats, protein, and a variety of vitamins and minerals like zinc, copper, magnesium and iron. It is known to boost heart, nerve, skin, and immune health.
Cashew milk also has lutein and zeaxanthin, which help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration to our eyes. Rich in vitamin K, cashew milk may aid in blood clotting and prevent excessive bleeding.
