Nona Asiah passed away at 94

1 Aug - Legendary singer Nona Asiah has recently passed away.

The songstress, who was one of the performers during the heyday of Malay films in Malaysia and Singapore, was revealed to have breathed her last at Changi General Hospital following health complications.

The news was also confirmed by her son, music director Indra Shahrir Ismail.

Nona or her real name, Asiah Aman, was famous as a background singer for movie songs produced by Malay Film Production and Cathay Keris. Among the songs recorded by her during her prime were "Manusia Miskin Kaya", "Jikalau Abang Merindu", and "Dunia Asmara".

It is noted that the moniker Nona Asiah was given by legendary thespian, the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee, who was also one of her mentors.

She was 94.
