Nick Cheung shares nightmare that inspires new movie

6 Aug - Nick Cheung recently revealed that he had used a sad past event in his life as one of the inspirations for his new directorial effort "Peg O' My Heart".

The actor-turned-director, who spoke about the film during his appearance in Malaysia earlier, said that he himself had been haunted by a nightmare, just like the lead character in the movie Dr. Man (Terrance Lau).

Saying he had a bad dream for a whole week due to an incident that occurred when he was a cadet police officer in his teens, Nick shared, "One time, I heard the neighbour across the street yelling and kicking the door, and then walked away. I was a policeman at the time, very righteous and responsible, so I just walked over with an umbrella to see what was going on."

"But when I walked over, I came across a very dark house, and when I went to the corridor, I saw a woman in a red shroud hanging at the door..."

Nick said that he couldn't forget the incident and was later told by his family that it was caused by a dispute between an older woman and her daughter-in-law.

"The mother-in-law hanged herself. She held a family photo in her hand and wrote 'I want revenge on you'. The whole family moved away, and I put this personal experience into the movie," he said.

In "Peg O' My Heart", Nick plays a taxi driver who perpetually lacks sleep and endangers those who uses his driving service, while Terrance La plays psychiatrist Dr. Man who suffers from disturbing dreams of his deceased mother.
