Spider-Man climbs atop worldwide box office
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" dominated the worldwide box office for the weekend of April 27, grossing $67.2 million in 42 territories according to Rentrak.
The latest feature on the superhero, which will be released in the US on May 2, outperformed "Rio 2." The animated feature about a family of blue parrots was in second place with $41.1 million in revenues over the period.
In third place was "The Other Woman" ($37.5 million), directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton. The romantic comedy was particularly popular in the US, where it took first place in the domestic box office from "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
Internationally, Marvel's latest superhero film was in fourth place, with $32 million in revenues over the weekend.
