Hong Seok Cheon Breaks Up with His Boyfriend
Hong Seok Cheon recently broke up with his same-sex partner.
Hong Seok Cheon revealed through an interview that he had broken up with his boyfriend, who was in his 20s. The statement follows his confession in March that he was dating. The breakup thus came just three months after the relationship was made public.
Hong Seok Cheon said the reason he broke up with his partner was because of the netizens’ prying eyes. “We broke up because the netizens kept digging up who he was. He couldn’t stand becoming an issue,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to be in a public relationship.”
According to a source close to Hong Seok Cheon, the TV personality’s lover didn’t want his sexuality to be made public.
When the netizens started to dig up who Hong Seok Cheon’s boyfriend is, both felt pressure on the reveal and ended up ending the relationship. The source said, “I heard that Hong Seok Cheon first suggested that they break up in consideration of [the lover]. They’re currently just close friends.”
On a general service channel variety show, when the MC asked whether he was seeing anyone, Hong Seok Cheon had answered “I have a boyfriend in his 20s.”
He said about their dates, “We usually date at home or at restaurants, and sometimes we go overseas on trips,” but then added, “It’s okay for me, but I’m trying to be careful because he doesn’t want his identity to go public.”
