Summer Meng says sorry for enjoying family time with convicted husband
11 Mar - Summer Meng has recently released a long statement to address recent backlash against her and husband Mickey Huang, the latter who was recently sentenced with eight months of prison for possessing sexually explicit images of minors without due cause.
It is noted that the media recently exposed photos of her and her husband travelling together with their daughter happily while the former TV personality was still on the appeal stage of his previous prison sentence. It had since aroused public outrage, with many saying that the couple seemed to not have any shame enjoying themselves despite the severe nature of Mickey's crime.
In response to the backlash, Summer took to social media on 9 March and expressed her apology, saying that she had never denied that Mickey had done wrong and hurt many people.
"I accept everyone's opinion during this time. I understand everyone's doubts and concerns about Mr. Huang's return to showbiz. He has no plans to come back, and I don't think Mr. Huang will and should be in the public eye anymore. I am deeply aware that I am not only a mother but also a public figure and must live with a more self-sufficient and reflective attitude," she expressed.
She continued, "The brands I personally run have all ended and been suspended, or the management rights have been transferred, from the end of last year to this year. The occasional free meditation and sharing courses have also been suspended. I know that these are far from enough. I will close all my social media accounts indefinitely in one day, no longer publish any public messages, sincerely reflect on myself, and focus my time and energy on protecting my daughter's education and growth."
Netizens had since taken to the comments to respond, with some saying that Summer should not be apologising on Mickey's behalf.
"It is Mr. Huang himself who has to come out and face it. After all, it's not his wife who has done wrong. It's Mr. Huang who has done wrong," said one netizen.
Another commented, "The best to do is to take your daughter away from the paedophile Mr. Huang."
