Elle Fanning signs for 'The Neon Demon' with Refn

"Maleficent" star Elle Fanning is on board for horror project "The Neon Demon" from "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn.

Backed by two French production companies, the film will be a "female-driven horror" with Elle Fanning as "an aspiring model who is caught in a world of beauty and demise," according to TheWrap.

Production is expected to get under way this March in Los Angeles in advance of a 2016 release.

The collaboration is the latest in a run that has seen Fanning work with a number of highly regarded directors, including Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, David Fincher, Andrei Konchalovsky, Sofia and Francis Ford Coppola, and J.J. Abrams.

In 2014, she appeared opposite Angelina Jolie in Disney's 2014 fairy tale blockbuster "Maleficent" and then voiced female lead Winnie for animated feature "The Boxtrolls."
