New TV shows coming to Singapore this April: Westworld, Legion, Code of Law and more

Every month, we’ll tell you about new TV shows to hit terrestrial and cable channels, as well as streaming sites in Singapore. We’ll also highlight the television shows that you’ve got to be home (or on your phone) to catch every month.
Overview of new TV shows in April
Science fiction seems to be the theme for the month, with “Westworld”, “Legion” and “3%” returning for their second seasons this month. Procedural buffs will enjoy the return of “Code of Law”, while Korean comedy-drama “Confidence Man JP” sits on the opposite side of the law. And “New Girl” will end at last with its seventh and final season premiering later this month — it’s a wonder it’s been able to last as long as it did!
Code of Law (2 Apr, Mondays to Thursdays 10pm)

The new season of Code of Law reboots the series, beginning three years after the events of Season 3, blending the successful elements of the series with new explosive cases and more fast-paced procedural elements. The main characters have evolved. Jacob Fernandez has risen to become the top criminal defence lawyer in Singapore and the Managing Partner of Devaraj and Associates. Insp Han, three years on, is still unable to rise in the ranks because some in the police force consider him a loose cannon. He has to be content to watch SSgt Razali rise to Senior Staff Sergeant, edging closer to the same rank as him.
“Code of Law” sees a new format for its fourth season, with a mysterious new character, Derek, played by Desmond Tan, impacting the lives of all its characters. But it still manages to balance police action with legal drama, even as both officers and lawyers strive to uphold justice in Singapore. The question on everyone’s mind, though, is whether Derek will get to the characters — before they get to him?
Legion (Season 2) (4 Apr, Wednesdays 9pm)

David Haller is a troubled young man diagnosed as schizophrenic, but after a strange encounter, he discovers special powers that will change his life forever.
Comic book fans will know Legion as Professor X’s son — and also his killer in an alternate timeline where evil has triumped. In this series though, he faces off against a disembodied powerful psychic known as the Shadow King, who has returned in the second season to menace Legion and his allies. Will we see more psychics in this new season?
Confidence Man JP (10 Apr)

An exhilarating and entertaining comedy about a bizarre plan to steal a large sum of money from people consumed by desire.The main character, Dahko (Masami Nagasawa), is a confidence woman whose age and real identity are unknown. She is a woman prone to making silly mistakes and with a soft spot for money, fashion and food.
“Confidence Man JP” has a rather amusing premise, especially since much of the comedy seems like it will hinge on the duality of confidence woman Dakho. As with most dramas, we’ll probably have to see a conflict between the con and the character in the finale, and hopefully it’ll be an exciting one.
Westworld (Season 2) (23 Apr, Mondays 10pm)

Chaos takes control in a new narrative. Get caught up on the dark odyssey that follows the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.
With the park in disarray from the previous season, how will the core premise of the series continue? It’ll be interesting to see whether they can recreate the mystery and deep themes that were in the first season, or whether the second season will take a different approach to the series. One thing’s for sure though — they should definitely avoid the “Heroes” route and let the storytelling evolve with the plot.
3% (Season 2) (27 Apr)

In a future where the elite inhabit an island paradise far from the crowded slums, you get one chance to join the 3% saved from squalor.
If you haven’t heard of “3%”, it’s because it’s a Portuguese language Netflix series. However, this science fiction drama has seen pretty good reception for its first season. Perhaps it’s because it takes a different approach to the conventional dystopian approach, but relies on good characterisation for storytelling. In any case, it’s coming back for a new season!
