Netizens angered by Carol Cheng's decision on Miss HK

6 Sep - Although 23-year-old Juliette Louie has been crowned the new Miss Hong Kong, netizens are still reeling from what was deemed a defective method in choosing the winner.

As reported on Mingpao, while some are happy with the result, others are questioning the method where only eight judges, including Michael Miu, Jessica Hsuan and Vincent Wong, were tasked to choose the winner, with highest-ranking judge, Carol Cheng given an additional vote.

While contestant Regina Ho was in the lead with four votes after a good performance in the Q&A segment, Carol's decision to give both her votes to Louie enabled the latter to win the competition.

One Instagram user stated that it was an unfair competition, while another questioned Louie's victory after a less-than-stellar performance and lack of proficiency during the Q&A.

Louie previously gained attention not just for her looks, but the fact that she is the daughter of famed designer and millionaire Henry Louie.

On the other hand, when asked about the backlash, TVB Assistant General Manager Sandy Yu defended Louie, saying that she has given a great overall performance.

"Her score is the highest. But of course, we will listen to the viewers in the future," she said.
