NDP 2024 highlights: First D3 & Onward March at the Padang
Celebrating 40 years of Total Defence (TD40) with the theme “Together, as One United People”, Singapore’s National Day Parade (NDP) 2024 will return to the Padang on 9 Aug. Like last year’s NDP, NDP 2024 has several firsts.
Here’s what to look out for at NDP 2024 as Singapore commemorates its 59th birthday.
Inaugural D3 segment at the Padang
Singaporeans will be able to catch the Dynamic Defence Display (D3) during the NDP at the Padang for the first time. In previous years, it was held at The Float @ Marina Bay.
The TD40 D3 segment and festivities will also be extended to the Promontory at Marina Bay for the first time so that more Singaporeans can be involved in the NDP celebrations.
New assets on display
The D3 will display 4 assets for the first time. These are the army’s latest weapon, the light machine gun, the SCDF’s next-generation fire engine called the electric pump ladder, PUB’s water wagon and the Singapore Red Cross transporter vehicle.
This marks the first time that PUB and the Singapore Red Cross will be part of the display.
Inaugural Onward March at the Padang
Audiences can look forward to the first Onward March at the Padang. Here, contingents will march into the spectator stands.
The longest-distance Presidential Gun Salute sail-past will also occur within the Marina Basin.
Return of SAF and Home Team volunteer contingent
NDP 2024 will see the return of a contingent comprising volunteers from the SAF and Home Team. They will be making their first NDP appearance since 2019.
Use of pyrotechnics for the first time at the Padang
If you are a fan of the annual NDP fireworks at Marina Bay, you will be able to catch them at the Padang for the first time this year. Fireworks will also go off from nearby structures.
Where do I get tickets to NDP 2024?
Applications to NDP 2024 have closed. Ticket balloting to the extended celebrations at the Promontory is open till 8 Jul, noon. Only Singaporeans and permanent residents may apply.
