Mschf Turned Its Bonkers Timberland-Inspired Boot Into an Even Wilder Loafer
Mschf’s penchant for virality continued last year with a riff on Timberland’s 6-Inch Boot that produced a back-and-forth on social media between the boot giant and and small but might provocateur. A comically large ribbed sole defined Mschf’s parody, and now that same hulking unit has been brought over to a lower-cut silhouette.
The Mschf 2×4 Loafer is a relatively straightforward proposition but is by no means dull for it. Just like on the 2×4 boot, the treaded rubber outsole rises up to consume almost the entirety of the upper for the all-black shoe. There’s just less territory remaining this time around, leaving room only for a padded leather collar to hug the ankle. A star pattern similar to that used by Louis Vuitton is once again molded into the vamp, and no saddle is used as the rubber extends to the instep.

In response to Mschf announcing its 2×4 Boot last spring, which employed the same “Wheat” colorway signature to the 6-Inch Boot, Timberland quickly produced a social media campaign referring to its creation as the original. The Brooklyn-based art collective known best for its footwear — and not shying away from controversy — then mimicked Timberland’s format and hailed its stomper as “Also Original.”
Within that Instagram carousel, a prototype for the 2×4 Loafer was also shown, but it hasn’t actually been produced for the public until now.
Mschf has drawn stronger ire from Timberland’s fellow VF Corp-owned brand Vans, which settled a lawsuit over an Old Skool parody with an agreement for the lookalike to no longer be sold. It also first came into the spotlight with a custom Nike Air Max 95 “Satan Shoe” leading to another settlement, and Mschf’s other largest claim to fame was the Astro Boy-inspired Big Red Boot.
The Mschf 2×4 Loafer is out now on Mschf’s website. Pricing is set at $325, and sizing runs from a men’s 6 to 13 without any half-sizes.
