Meet Iris Apfel, H&M's latest centenarian model and designer

Global style icon Iris Apfel, 100, is the latest collaborator to join fashion brand H&M’s design roster, including past designers Karl Lagerfeld, Simone Rocha and Stella McCartney. It was her eclectic taste and her influence within the fashion community which attracted H&M in the first place!

Before she was a model, Apfel was a copywriter at Women’s Wear Daily and co-founder of the textile company Old World Weavers. Her eye for interior design led her to work with nine past presidents of the USA, including Bill Clinton and Harry S. Truman. These days, Apfel keeps herself busy by travelling around the world, attending fashion weeks and modelling for brands like Zenni Optical and Hugo Boss.

Now everyone can go home with a piece of Apfel’s look. The model, who’s known for her fierce individuality and creative style of pairing haute couture wear with vintage treasures from flea markets around the globe, is collaborating with H&M Womenswear Creative Advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson, on a 19-piece clothing and 17-piece accessories collection.

The collection will feature a playful mix of textures, patterns and cuts. Key garments include a jacquard suit with peapod embroidery and pearl peas, a voluminous frilled tulle jacket and a flouncy tiered skirt and blouse set in a stunning iris flower print. Taking inspiration from Apfel’s love of layering and fondness for chunky statement pieces, the accessories pull from many themes, including plants, animals, and treasures from another world.

The colourful collection will launch online and in Singapore and Malaysia’s flagship stores on 31st March 2022.
