Comedian Mark Lee’s daughter Calynn, who is battling a rare autoimmune disease, is getting better, although it will take more time for her to fully recover, according to her mother Catherine Ng.

News broke earlier this month that Calynn had glomerulonephritis, a condition that results from an overactive immune system attacking one’s kidneys. Ng had shared her five-year-old daughter’s condition after setting up a Facebook page called “Cheers for Calynn Lee” on 6 August.

Ng, who appears to operate the Facebook page, has been making regular updates on Calynn’s condition. In a post on Tuesday (21 August), she wrote in Chinese: “Calynn’s urine test result yesterday showed signs that she is recovering.

“We are grateful to everyone for praying for her, and to friends who helped in her recuperation. She has received all your well-wishes.

“We are so happy! This is the best birthday gift that everyone could give her.”

Calynn’s birthday falls on 19 August.

Speaking to Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao, Ng said the doctor told her that although Calynn was getting better, she could not recover fully within the short term, and that the standard treatment period for those with her condition is six months.

Lee and his family had previously thanked the public for their well-wishes after they appealed for advice through Facebook regarding Calynn’s disorder.

Calynn, who is Lee’s youngest child, has a 10-year-old sister, Calista, and a seven-year-old brother Marksonn.

Calynn and Marksonn, whose birthday falls on 21 August, held a joint birthday party on Tuesday so that Calynn could see her friends, whom she missed while in hospital, said Ng.
