Mark Hamill to Host Pop Culture Digital Series on Comic-Con HQ

Mark Hamill, best known as Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars,” is launching a pop culture series on Comic-Con HQ, the new subscription video-on-demand service.

The show, aimed at extending the experience of San Diego Comic-Con, is titled “Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest.” Hamill will host and produce the documentary-style series featuring stories about passionate fans and their collections.

Production on the series will begin later this month after Hamill returns from shooting “Star Wars VIII” in the U.K. The program will debut on Comic-Con HQ this fall, while “Star Wars VIII” opens Dec. 15.

Hamill has been amassing memorabilia, including comic books, toys, lunch boxes, records, puppets and original artwork, since the early 1970s.

“I’ve been a collector all my life,” Hamill said. “This show is a natural outgrowth of that passion. Now I have an opportunity to collect other people’s collections! I can’t wait to see what’s out there and share it with the world.”

Seth Laderman, general manager of Comic-Con HQ, said the idea has been in the works for the more than three years, adding, “Passion is at the heart of all of our original series, with a goal to allow innovators like Mark the opportunity to create and bring their ideas to life.”

Hamill’s executive team on the series includes Howard Kazanjian, producer of “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi,” exec producer on “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and former VP at Lucasfilm; producer Darren Moorman (“Same Kind of Different as Me”); and longtime collector and vintage show promoter Scott Kinney.

Comic-ConHQ.com, a venture between Comic-Con International and Lionsgate, is available for free. It will officially launch this summer on Roku, AppleTV and Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program.

The ad-free service will include original scripted and unscripted series, recurring daily and weekly entertainment commentary, live and archival programming, film and TV genre titles, and behind-the-scenes access and bonus features from genre titles.
