Maren Morris Returns to Social Media with Post About Facing 'What's Necessary' amid Ryan Hurd Divorce

The musician filed for divorce on Oct. 2 after five years of marriage

Maren Morris returned to social media with an inspirational quote amid news that she's filed for divorce from husband Ryan Hurd.

On Friday, the “Circles Around This Town” singer, 33, posted an Instagram Story with an inspirational quote that seemingly alludes to the acceptance of an uncertain future.

The quote features the partially crossed-out text "It will be fine," before the words "it will just be, and when it is, you will face what's necessary."

She then posted a selfie wearing a baseball cap with the lyrics "There were nights when the wind was so cold" from Céline Dion's hit "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," later adding it to an Instagram carousel along with the caption, "Welcome to The End where you can come and lose some friends…"

The last slide Morris included was a TikTok clip of her posing on the red carpet at pal Taylor Swift's Eras Tour film premiere in Los Angeles last week, overlaid with an audio clip from the star's song "Vigilante S---" where Swift sings, "I don't dress for women / I don't dress for men / lately I've been dressing for revenge."

Morris, who recently released the two-song project The Bridge, filed for divorce from Hurd, 36, on Oct. 2 after five years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The docs said the couple — who share 3½-year-old son Hayes Andrew — have been separated since the date of filing.

A parenting seminar order — a requirement for all Davidson County divorce cases involving children — was ordered by a judge on July 25, and indicated that Morris and Hurd would have 60 days from the date of filing their complaint to complete the seminar. Documents indicate that Morris successfully completed a four-hour parenting skills seminar on Oct. 14.

The former couple first met in 2013 during a songwriting session (the result was Tim McGraw’s “Last Turn Home”), and tied the knot in March 2018 after nearly three years of dating.

“We had been friends for only a couple of years, but there was always this writing chemistry in the room, and eventually, the timing of it was undeniable. We had such a foundation built off writing so many songs over the years that we were like, ‘Why are we avoiding this?'” Morris told PEOPLE in 2017.

Over the years, the pair continued to collaborate, and in 2021, released their first-ever duet “Chasing After You.” The song was a country hit, and was nominated for best country duo or group performance at the Grammys.

Just weeks before news of the split broke, Morris announced that she was leaving country music after feeling “very, very distanced” from the industry and its politics, prompting a supportive Instagram post from Hurd.

"She deserves to be celebrated, not just tolerated," Hurd wrote at the time. "I’m so sick of watching my wife get the s--- kicked out of her by the internet. I’m sick of every talking head having some kind of stupid opinion about what she says. It’s the same every time, why are you surprised when she calls out something racist or homophobic, I’m sick of people getting rewarded for it."

"She deserves a little sunshine for the burden she has carried for every artist and fan that feels the same way. I can’t wait for that first tour and to see all of the smiling and beautiful people who needed these songs and and also need HER. I can’t wait to make music that follows the same path, whatever that is," he continued. "Love you, MM. Keep on keepin’ on."

In April, the "I Can't Love You Anymore" musician celebrated her 33rd birthday with a sweet tribute from Hurd.

"This picture is from the weekend we got engaged," he captioned two photos on his Instagram Story, one kissing Morris onstage in 2017. "We don't take as many photos together these days but that's OK. Spent the day in NYC with my powerhouse celebrating her birthday. Love you, MM. Happy birthday 🎂"

In a second post, he shared Morris' photo of her lounging in bed. "Things got crazy. We ate a cake. I like getting older with you," he raved.
