Marc Jacobs Goes Wild With Wacky Spring ’25 Shoes — From Horned Boots to Elongated Satin Pumps
Marc Jacobs continues to play with proportions, inflating and exaggerating silhouettes with a sense of wackiness in his latest collection.
The designer unofficially kicked off New York Fashion Week with his spring 2025 show at the New York Public Library, where he also showed last season. Tracee Ellis Ross, Nara Smith, Lisa Rinna, Nicky Hilton and Sofia Coppola were among the guests at the show, an evolution from fall. The models walked down the runway in inflated, stiff, doll-like dresses with bulbous dimensions. The contorted silhouettes even made it in to the designs of the collection’s shoes.

While Jacobs’ most famous shoe today is undoubtedly his Kiki boot — that style, which was first introduced in 2016, was worn on the front row by Nicky Hilton, Prya Shukla and Meredith Duxby — he offered another boot this season. This one was an imposing, nearly knee-high black boot. With a curved heel on the back, the platform shoe measures at least six inches high. The front features a curved horn of sorts.
The pointed and upturned front is a shape Jacobs has been experimenting with for seasons: in spring 2024 he designed a series of satin shoes that closed his show and featured a demure version of the silhouette. By fall 2024 this had been inflated as a pair of pumps in a variety of colors — this season Tracee Ellis Ross wore that version on the front row — as well as slippers. Now, the designer has put forth the most extreme option.
That wasn’t the only footwear style that saw distortion. Jacobs took his satin pumps from the collection, with their square-cut vamps, and elongated the toe. The result added a clownish aspect, with the shoe protruding out about four inches beyond the bow at the top of the vamp and ending in a flat front.
For the third footwear design of the collection, Jacobs revisited the bulbous Mary Jane heels of spring 2024. He inflated the already-inflated shoe, turning it into a pump with a sculpted heel. The toe box raises up, almost covering the entire foot from the front view.
This collection was titled “Courage.” In show notes, Jacobs is quoted as saying “Fear is not my enemy — it is a necessary companion to creativity, authenticity, integrity and life.”
