Katy Kung on winning TV Queen: You can't please everyone!
3 Feb - Despite recent controversy surrounding her Best Actress win at the TVB Anniversary Awards, Katy Kung remains graciously thankful for the recognition. Speaking with Mingpao, Katy shared her genuine surprise at the victory, noting that she had only hoped to place among the top five nominees.
"I really wanted everyone to see my mature side. When I went on stage, I took a deep breath and stopped being a 'girly girl'. When I first entered the industry, I gave people the impression of being just a girl. Whether it was speaking or acting, I had no confidence. I entered the industry at the age of 19 and have experienced a lot in the past 16 years. I am grateful that many seniors have cherished me and allowed me to accumulate and mature step by step," she said.
Katy's journey to becoming TV Queen has been marked by steady progression, including winning Best Supporting Actress in 2016 and Malaysia's Favourite TVB Actress in 2020. She acknowledges that award decisions can't please everyone, noting, "Of course, it is impossible to make everyone agree or feel comfortable with every result. It is normal for everyone to have different feelings."
The actress stressed her commitment to honouring those who believed in her potential. "I cherish every opportunity and try my best to do it well. The role is enough. It is not easy to win an award. Although this award is for 'Best Actress', it does not belong to me alone. One person cannot do this. There are many people who helped me realise this dream."
