Man finds maggot in bergedil from CRAVE Nasi Lemak at Bedok Mall

It seems that finding bugs and critters within our food has become more commonplace, and the proliferation of local “complaint” pages on social media has made it easier for netizens to share their experiences with the masses. On 14 Aug 2023, a man found a maggot within a dish he ordered from CRAVE Nasi Lemak.

The man shared his experience on the “COMPLAINT SINGAPORE” Facebook page on 15 Aug 2023, a day after the incident. According to his post, he had bought 2 packets of nasi lemak from CRAVE Nasi Lemak’s outlet at Bedok Mall, and found a maggot in the bergedil in one of the packets.

The man also attached a video of the maggot within the food, and included an image of the receipt of his purchase. The maggot appears to be dead in the video, not making any movements even when poked with a fork.

Other netizens also shared their bad experiences with CRAVE Nasi Lemak, with one claiming to have seen a cockroach within the food area of CRAVE’s Tampines Hub outlet. The netizen alleged that the 2 staff members who were working “pretended not to see” the cockroach.

Another criticised CRAVE Nasi Lemak’s now defunct Harbourfront outlet, stating that the bergedil bought there had been sour multiple times.

This isn’t the first time that creepy crawlies have been found within food from F&B outlets. Recently, on 5 Aug 2023, a man posted on the same “COMPLAINT SINGAPORE” Facebook page that his daughter had found a cockroach inside of a dish she had ordered from Pepper Lunch‘s Compass One outlet via GrabFood. Pepper Lunch has since reached out to share the measures that they had taken following the incident.

Another time, a lady found a cockroach inside her Korean steamboat dish when she was dining at Ha-Jun Korean at Clementi Mall.
