Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodle closed from 19 Jun – 17 Jul 2023
It seems Jun is truly the holiday season as yet another popular stall is going on a break. This time, it’s Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodle in Ang Mo Kio. Their month-long temporary closure will be from 19 Jun to 17 Jul 2023.
Known for their incredibly long queues, Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodle reigns supreme for their handmade fishballs. Apparently, there is a one-hour-long queue on the weekends, which says something about how good their goodies must be.
The reason for the break is not known. At the time of writing, the only announcement is a whiteboard sign at the front of the store. However, as the stall is quite active on its Facebook page, I am sure that an announcement about their temporary hiatus will be made there shortly.
Malaysian Hup Kee Fishball Noodle’s classic Malaysian-style fishball noodles keeps bringing customers back for more. Fans will be pleased to know that the hawkers are from Pahang and Ipoh, so their noodles are the real deal.
With just 3 humble dishes, this stall takes the “less is more” mentality seriously. Folks claim that their Dry Fishball Noodle (S$5 for small, S$6.50 for large) is so good because the housemade belacan chilli gives it a whole new depth of flavour. Spice fans will definitely approve of that fiery heat with each bite.
However, the stars of the show have to be the ingredients — tau pok and fishballs. Freshly made with yellowtail fish, both contain a more enhanced flavour compared to the store-bought variety. Their fishballs are famed for their bouncy appeal; fresh truly makes the difference.
Now that this stall takes a well-deserved break, this one-month period gives us the perfect opportunity to see what else Ang Mo Kio has to offer! Perhaps, 3 Sisters Prawn Noodle with their hearty broth will suit your fancy.
