Just a few days ago, New Zealand-based news outlet NewsHub published an article which speculated that Lorde might be running a secret onion ring Instagram account Yes, onion rings. Lol. They revealed some pretty convincing evidence, including that she and a few of her friends made up some of the 24 followers of the account, @onionringsworldwide, and that her personal Instagram corroborated that she was in the cities where the onion rings were reviewed at the time they were reviewed. The account soon came down, and we spent a few days wondering, “Wait…what?”

But, as it turns out, Lorde herself recently admitted that she was indeed behind the unusual Insta account, and she has shared a few words explaining her motivations. Hahaha! We love it!

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy expertly guided Lorde into a conversation about onion rings to get to the bottom of this once and for all. Immediately we see Lorde get a bit uncomfortable.

“Here’s the thing,” she hedges. “I sort of naively didn’t realize it would be, like, a thing that I was going to different places and trying the onion rings at each of those places.”

“It is you?” Fallon asks in disbelief.

“Ah, god. It’s me! It’s me! It’s me!”

“That is the best thing ever. I love that it’s you.”

US TOO, JIMMY.

She admits that when the world found out, she felt a little silly. “I feel like it reads like the kind of thing a pop star would do to look relatable,” she says, “but it was like a funny thing with my friends on the tour, and I was like, ‘This is a good pastime.'”

We GET it. But did she have to take it down? Sad.

She explains:

“I just felt like, now everyone knows about it and it would feel like it’s something I’m doing to like create favor, and people are going to be throwing onion rings at me on tour, and it was going to turn into a whole thing. It was fun for like five seconds.”

Fair, Lorde. Fair.

But she’s not going to stop eating her favorite fried snack. “I think they’re underrated,” she says. “I don’t think they get enough credit for how delicious they are.” Hahaha. Agreed!

She even has some secrets for making BOMB onion rings at home! She says, “a batter works better than a crumb,” and that, to really make your onion rings special, “lightly pickle the onion before you batter it up.” Interesting.

One very clever YouTuber dubbed her, “Lorde of the Rings”. LOLOLOL. Dying.

For the love of god, please no one throw an onion ring at Lorde during her tour. Maybe if people are cool about it, she’ll come back to this little bizarre hobby that we love so much.
