Local celebrity Chen Mei Guang passes away at 88
SINGAPORE – Local celebrity Chen Mei Guang passed away on the morning of the 8th of November at Sengkang General Hospital. She was 88 years old.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, Chen’s son, Huang Yi, received a call from his mother’s helper on the 7th, stating that she tried to wake Chen up for breakfast but was unable to get her to respond. Huang called for the ambulance immediately, and Chen was sent to the nearest Sengkang General Hospital.
At the hospital, it was discovered that Chen suffered a cerebral haemorrhage, and the doctors told the family to prepare for the worst. Huang shared that his mother woke up on that day with hallucination, telling them that TCS (Mediacorp’s previous name) called her to go back for a filming.
Chen had used a wheelchair due to weak limbs for the past seven years and was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease since two years ago. With a decline in her memory skills, Huang said that his mother kept calling people by wrong names, and could not differentiate between morning and night times.
“A month ago, my mother started saying that veterans from Medicorp came to see her, including Uncle Bai Yan, and it made us wonder if she was also going to...” Huang shared. Retired Channel 8 actor Uncle Bai Yan had passed away in August 2019.
Chen passed away sometime at 8am on the 8th of November and was 88 years old. Her funeral will be held from Wednesday (11th) to Friday (13th) at Hougang Street 51, Blk 546’s void deck.
