Liu Kai Chi passed away at 66
29 Mar – Hong Kong award-winning actor Liu Kai Chi has recently passed away.
As reported on Mingpao, the news was announced by his management company L&P Entertainment on 28 March, in a statement that read, "It is with a heavy heart that we reveal that our beloved Mr. Liu Kai Chi (Uncle Chi) has returned to our Maker at 8.32 pm on March 28, 2021, at the Prince of Wales Hospital in the company of his family."
"The family thanked the medical staff for their careful care over the past few months, as well as the care and blessings of the general public and the media. Although the family feels disappointed, they still have hope that they will meet again in the future."
The company also stated that while they understand that many people cared for the late actor, they implored the public to give Liu's family space to deal with the grief, adding that the funeral arrangements will be notified later.
Liu's illness was first revealed to the public last week, with his management agency stating that the actor was taking time off work to take care of his health. It was reported that Liu had been battling stomach cancer since December last year.
Starting his career in 1979 in TVB, Liu went on to make a transition from TV to movies in the '90s and won various awards including two Best Supporting Actor honours at the Hong Kong Film Awards back in 1993 for "Cageman" and in 2009 for "Beast Stalker".
He also moved to HKTV for several years and starred in a couple of series for the channel, including the highly praised series, "The Election".
He also met wife Money Chan, marrying the actress in 1987 and having three children with her. However, the couple lost their youngest child - who was battling leukaemia- in 2006.
Liu was 66.
