Some stories don't seem to 'make sense' at the beginning. This is often deliberate. A sense of confusion can encourage us to take a keener interest in the plot from the outset. But if too much time passes before this is made clear, our interest levels drop. Where something appears nonsensical now, try to give it a bit more time.
