"Legend of Zhen Huan" actress in hot water for admitting to DUI on live stream
14 Feb - Chinese actress Cui Manli had everybody scratching their heads in puzzlement after she decided to share an old story about her driving a vehicle without a license while drunk.
The actress, most known for her performance as Yu Ying'er in "The Legend of Zhen Huan", recently went live on social media, where she shared an incident while she was filming in Hengdian, saying that she had to drive her drunk friend home despite not having a driver's license and being intoxicated herself.
Cui admitted that as she didn't know how to reverse the car, she accidentally dented someone else's car door at the hotel entrance. After panicking and telling her drunk friend about it, the said friend suggested that she ran away and so they found another hotel to stay in overnight.
The actress said that in the morning, after her friend woke up, they decided not to go out and that they know it would be safe if no one called them during the day.
She even asked the front desk of the original hotel if there was a surveillance camera where the incident occurred and was relieved after being told the camera was broken.
Netizens who saw the livestream were dumbfounded over the admission, especially since Cui did not only drive without a license and under the influence, but also committed a hit-and-run.
"Is this girl trying to destroy her own career?" asked one netizen.
"How can someone just reveal all this information?" said another.
Others, on the other hand, are worried that the issue will lead to her ban and the ban of all her works including the beloved 2011 series, "The Legend of Zhen Huan".
Meanwhile, Dongyang Police has now launched an investigation into her statement. Cui, on the other hand, is now denying her words, saying that it was "just a dream".
"How could it be true? It was just a dream," she said.
