Lee San San admits to have suffered from panic disorder

26 Nov – Hong Kong beauty queen Lee San San has recently admitted that she has actually been struggling from panic disorder for the past few years.

As reported on Mingpao, in a video clip to promote the Mental Health Foundation, the "Burning Flame" actress shared her story through multiple placards, telling viewers that she was hospitalised in 2017 for variety of reasons, but not for brain tumour as previously rumoured.

"It was my first time experience such extreme illness: fever, cold sweat, fatigue, general weakness, difficulty of breathing, and then my vision turned black. I literally felt like I was suffocating, like I was on the verge of death."

Lee shared that after several tests, the doctors couldn't determine her condition, until she was referred to a doctor named Liu Yingjie, who diagnosed her with panic disorder.

"Fortunately, Dr Liu taught me that emotional illness is actually no different than treating a cold. I began to share with my trusted friends, and revealed to them what I had. I only had to do two things - regular check-ups and take medicine on time. Plus, with the support of my friends, the condition slowly got better, the symptoms of panic and fear are no longer happening, and the feeling of sudden death is no longer felt. Nothing of sort happened again, and I know that my situation is under control," she stated.

Lee also encouraged other suffering from similar condition to get help as soon as possible, saying that with the right doctor and medication, they can turn their life around.
