KinKi Kids to change name to DOMOTO
2 Jan - KinKi Kids recently announced that they are going to be changing their duo name to DOMOTO now.
On 31 December, the duo shared the news during a YouTube live stream following their concert held at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka.
The two of them were seen wearing hakama and sitting on a kotatsu while chatting, counting down the moment to 2025. Soon, the word "DOMOTO" was displayed on the screen.
Tsuyoshi then stated, "We have decided to take a new step as 'DOMOTO' from now on."
Tsuyoshi and Koichi said that they have actually been deliberating about the name change for two years now, admitting that they were attached to the name KinKi Kids even though they are now in their mid-40s.
"As we thought about it carefully, we also realised that we have the same surname, and we came to the conclusion that we wanted to take a new step while cherishing this thing that goes beyond words or letters," they said.
As to the specific timing of the name change, Tsuyoshi said that they are aiming to do so in summer.
In conjunction with the name change, a fan club will be pre-opened in preparation for the grand opening as DOMOTO.
Koichi Domoto and Tsuyoshi Domoto made their official debut as KinKi Kids back in 1997 as part of Johnny & Associates. The name was chosen as they were both from the Kinki region in Honshu.
