Ken Chu learns a new lesson from "Meteor Garden"
10 May – Taiwanese actor Ken Chu recently wrote a heartfelt message about his 2001 idol drama, "Meteor Garden", which has been gaining a lot of new fans since it re-aired in Taiwan recently.
As reported on Epoch Times, the actor, who played the laidback Xi Men in the original adaptation of the Japanese comic, took to Weibo to express his thoughts in a post that was titled, "Love is always there..."
He wrote, "A while ago, "Meteor Garden" started re-airing again, and my Weibo was suddenly bustling again. It's actually a bit embarrassing, because in the past few years I managed to push myself down to the bottom, ready to forget the past and plan to come back again. [But now] I started to get everyone's attention again."
"First, my family and friends started to send me screenshots of various scenes. Then I got asked how I was so handsome in the past. Then my [wife] begins to watch it on her phone every day," he said.
Ken stated that while he wanted to ignore everything, he began to watch the videos, and all sorts of memories came back. He added that people around him began to persuade him to write something for everyone.
"I always laughed [when they asked me]. The first is because it was a long time ago. Many things have been forgotten. The second reason is because I really don't want to be a tool for other people's promotions," he said.
"But life is really difficult to predict. I like quietness, so I have frequent flights between Beijing and Taipei in the past few years. I would usually take a red-eye. One day, I was sitting next to a colleague who toured the same year. We talked about some events of the year, and then he asked me a classic question: "Do you think it was worth it?"
"I have answered numerous questions on this issue, and the answer is official, that is, there were pros and cons. Usually everyone including myself would accept this answer, but this time it is not the same anymore. My heart is no longer satisfied with this answer, but I don't know why."
Ken said that shared that on the third morning of his return to Taipei, something sparked the nostalgia in him, so when he arrived home, he began to read all the letters he received from the fans at the time.
"I finally found the answer... A deaf girl from Japan revealed that she has closed herself from people because she felt incomplete. However, after watching "Meteor Garden", she began to communicate with others. A fan who was sent to Indonesia from Taiwan for work, thought that he would feel excluded in a foreign country. But because of "Meteor Garden", he became surprisingly popular [among his Indonesian colleagues]. [...] In fact, a lot of things like this occurred that year that I did not care very much at the time. Now I understand. It gives me a warm feeling..."
"If someone asks me: "Do you think it's worth it?" I'll tell him now that it's worth it because I am not only loved. I've also created and spread love. Although the times and the people's heart has changed, and the scenery of that year is already gone, when I understand this truth, I will never lose courage... because love is always there..."
He then added, "Whether it is the old F4 or the new F4, the Japanese F4 or the Korean F4, as long as they can soothe people, they are a good F4..."
