Kathy Yuen admits pressure to do well for first lead role

2 May – Hong Kong actress Kathy Yuen recently admitted that she had pressured herself to do well in "When Sun Meets Moon" as it was her first chance to play the lead in a movie.

As reported on Singtao Daily, the actress, who spoke about working with director Benny Lau on the new movie recently, said that she couldn't help but stress herself out trying to give the movie everything that she had.

"In order to completely immerse myself in the character, I tried not to show much expression on the set. The crew even thought that I was upset," she said.

Kathy also stated that her decision to stay in character even worried director Benny Lau, who tried to cheer her up, especially on one particular day - when her co-star Maggie Shiu ignored her on the set to prepare for their mother-daughter argument scene.

"When the director asked me ["Did we do something to upset you?"], I nearly felt like crying because Maggie's performance was so great," she said.

On the other hand, Maggie said that she often saw Kathy reading the script alone and believed that Kathy was doing what should have been done by all newcomers when playing the lead for the first time.

"I did the same thing before. I buried my head in the script because focusing on my own lines was very important to me," she said.

Kathy stated that she was very grateful to Maggie, who not only helped her as a fellow co-star, but also gave her useful tips for her future performances.
