Kara Hui worked hard for "The Bold, The Corrupt, and The Beautiful"

14 Dec – Although she is not a mother herself, Kara Hui admitted that she seems to have good fortune when she is playing one in movies.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress who won the Golden Horse Awards' Best Supporting Actress playing a divorced mother in "At the End of Daybreak" in 2009 and Best Actress for playing another kind of mother in "The Bold, the Corrupt, and the Beautiful" recently, shared that there are differences in the two mother roles.

"The Bold's Madame Tang is completely different from the other role. She is a person who would do anything to fulfill her own desires, even betraying the trust of her own daughter. She's dark and desolate," she said.

According to Kara, she did a lot of research in preparation for the role, saying, "As always, I live in my character. Each and every character I play is a new creation. There is no trace of Kara Hui in it."

The actress also revealed that she forked out a hefty amount of money for vocal lessons just because she has to perform the song "Shanghai Beach" in the movie.

"This is an investment, which every actor should do. I wouldn't be able to bear looking at how unprofessional I am on the screen if I don't do it," she said.

Kara said that she is relieved that critics alike saw how much work she put into the role and awarded her for it.
